True Amano Shrimp are not magic, but they are extremely effective when used correctly. Their best role is not rescuing a completely neglected tank overnight — it is helping a stable aquarium stay cleaner over time.

For best results, keep them slightly hungry. Overfed Amano Shrimp become lazy cleanup crew. In a mature planted aquarium, a proper group of Amano Shrimp can make a dramatic difference in daily algae pressure.

Recommended Group Size

One Amano Shrimp can help, but a group works much better. For algae control, we recommend roughly 1 Amano Shrimp per 1-3 gallons, depending on tank size, algae level, and fish stocking.
