Rainbowfish are best known for their active swimming, social behaviour, and mature male colour display. They usually look their best when kept in groups, where males can show stronger natural colour and more confident movement. Larger rainbowfish need open swimming space, while smaller Pseudomugil species are excellent choices for planted nano-style aquariums with stable water and gentle tankmates.

Gouramis offer a different type of aquarium presence. As labyrinth fish, they naturally use the water surface to breathe air and often appreciate planted aquariums with floating cover, calm areas, and carefully selected tankmates. Some males can become territorial, so choosing the right species and setup is important.

For colourful males and selected colour forms, the colour you see comes from genetics, maturity, health, and proper conditioning. Topick Aquarium does not use hormones to artificially enhance fish colour.
