Corydoras are among the most beloved freshwater aquarium fish in the world. Known for their peaceful nature, playful group behaviour, and constant activity along the bottom of the tank, Corydoras catfish are perfect companions for planted aquariums and community setups.

These small armored catfish originate from South America and naturally live in large groups in slow-moving rivers and flooded forest habitats. In aquariums, they thrive when kept in groups and are constantly exploring the substrate in search of food. Their gentle personality makes them excellent tank mates for tetra species, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, and other peaceful fish.

Substrate and Habitat Requirements

Corydoras naturally sift through soft sand substrates while searching for food. Fine sand or smooth substrate is highly recommended to protect their sensitive barbels. In planted aquariums with driftwood, leaf litter, and gentle filtration, Corydoras often display their most natural behaviours.

Ideal tank mates include small tetra species, rasboras, pencilfish, and other peaceful community fish. Because of their calm nature, they are commonly used as bottom dwellers in aquascaped planted tanks.
