Pinokio Shrimp (Caridina gracilirostris)

Description:

The Pinokio Shrimp, scientifically known as Caridina gracilirostris, is a fascinating and uniquely shaped freshwater shrimp, instantly recognizable by its long, needle-like rostrum—hence the nickname "Pinokio." Native to Southeast Asia, this shrimp is admired for its transparent body and active nature, making it a captivating addition to planted and peaceful community aquariums.

Features:

  • Distinctive elongated rostrum (snout) giving it a "Pinokio" appearance
  • Mostly transparent body with subtle red, green, or yellow hues depending on lighting and health
  • Excellent algae grazer, feeding on biofilm and detritus
  • Peaceful and active, best kept in groups to encourage natural behavior

Care Instructions:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons, with stable water conditions and plenty of hiding spots
  • Water Parameters: pH 6.5–7.5, soft to moderately hard water
  • Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)
  • Diet: Omnivorous; feeds on algae, biofilm, blanched vegetables, and high-quality shrimp pellets
  • Compatibility: Best kept with peaceful, small tank mates. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or those large enough to prey on shrimp
